This card was working fine until I installed "the latest creative
drives" (which I dl'd from Creative's site). Once I loaded those
drivers, the midi player became disabled somehow. Midi files would no
longer play.

What I did (after reloading the new drivers a second time with the
same results):

1. Uninstalled all software for the sound card.
2. Went to Device Mgr and Removed all occurrances of PCI128

Rebooted.

Put in original CD for the sound card and loaded drivers.

Result:
The card now plays uncomplicated midi files (like sound effects), but
it only plays a single track from multi-track midi files. For example
I can only hear the strings in a classical music midi file, or only
the bass in another, or maybe only the piano in another...and 50% of
the midi files, don't play at all. That is, in the Midi Device player,
if you click Play List a list of midi files comes up. (These came with
PCI128). Only half of them play, and the other half only partially
play. Tracks are dropped. Am I missing a .dll or something??

HELP!

OS is Win98--not SE-- with tons of available mem and gig space.

Thanks!
Jane

With the system switched off pull the card out.
Boot to Safemode/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and remove the
drivers/software.
Whilst in Safemode also go Control Panel/System/Device Manager and
remove ALL entries under the sound video and games controllers
section.
Shutdown and re-insert card firmly and correctly.
Re-boot and when prompted supply the drivers disk.
More info on why to use Safemode here,

If this doesn't cure it there's more you can do and there are some
updated drivers and software that you can install for these cards but
they have to be done in the correct order.

HTH :)

Taking the card out, booting, removing drivers/devices within safe
mode, shut down, reinstall card, booting, reinstalling software,
worked.

Thanks for your help.
